International BSC Deputy Head of Transactions

Purpose of the role

The Heidelberg Materials (HM) International Business Service Centre (BSC) provides administrative, transactional and accounting services to in-scope HM companies.

The International BSC Deputy Head of Transactions is responsible for developing and implementing the departmental strategies of several transactional teams. In addition, they act as the main point of contact for middle and senior management of allocated countries, ensuring that they remain satisfied with service levels and delivery.

Key accountabilities

  • Departmental Strategy – responsible for the implementation of departmental strategies, as developing in collaboration with the Head of Transactions. Ensure alignment with local country requirements, global process best practice and the overall BSC strategy.

  • Customer Service - Proactively build positive and collaborative relationships with local country management teams, including senior management. Understand local requirements and challenges and work with counterparts to provide appropriate solutions without detracting from the overall BSC strategy. Provide a single point of contact for any issues arising from the local country. Co-ordinate resources and expertise across the BSC to provide fast and accurate responses, taking personal responsibility for the outcome whether delivered individually or through others.

  • Continuous Improvement – Provide deep knowledge of the systems and end to end processes in team scope. Work with other experts across the BSC to ensure that best proactive is developed as a centre, not within individual teams. Working with peers, approve and prioritise continuous improvement initiatives proposed, and project manage them to completion. Ensure communication and change management across the BSC and local countries are proactively managed to support successful delivery.

  • Budget and FTE management - monitor all available data and KPIs to ensure that a balance is properly maintained between target delivery, service quality, and costs / FTE allocated. Promote cross skilling and fluid movement of team members to respond to changes in incoming demand on a continuous basis. Manage overall department to both cost and FTE budgets or provide detailed business cases for additional spend in advance. Ensure that efficiencies delivered via continuous improvement are locked into actual FTE and cost profiles.

  • People Management – support the Transactions Manager to recruit, develop and retain a suitably skilled workforce to deliver the required activities on a stable and uninterrupted basis. Provide coaching and advice where necessary to all levels of leadership across the department.

Financial & Non-Financial accountabilities (capture size of role e.g., budget responsibility)

Responsible for a department of up to c.50 FTE

CRM for multiple countries (c.2 – 5 depending on size and complexity.)

Education/Qualification

  • Proven people management of large teams ( great than 20) and Accounts Payable experience

  • The successful candidate will have experience of dealing with external and internal customers and suppliers.
